Viva Fever: PILOT EPISODE

 Howdy Ya'll !!

My name is Taylor! I am from a gorgeous little town called Dekalb outside of Kansas City, with a population of less than 5000! I grew up on a little farm with blots of fun animals and wonderful adventures! I moved out here to the Hampton roads area about three years ago to begin working at a summer camp as the Aquatic's Director, this camp being where i got my favorite name, Viva. Especially when with my kiddos I am very vibrant and energetic and passionate about dance parties, that energy is where I came up with he term Viva fever, which has grown to encapsulate so many aspects of my life where I thrive to bring the same excitement and joy, like this blog!

All of this to say. I am very new and inexperienced to the blogging world, but i hope to create a platform where people can come to learn, unwind, have a laugh or just have some pleasant scrolling time! So buckle in and bear with me as I work to build this community of fun, dance breaks and learning!

SOOO.... I am taking a digital writing course through ODU, and in this course we are learning about different aspects of digital citizenship and things like which type of digital citizen you are, which it turns out I am a "lurker" because I don't post or interact much. It feels so weird to call myself that!

This week we went over the relationship online between content writers/creators and their audience. The material we covered discussed how when readers aren't engaged they do not tend to read the entirety of the articles/ posts unless they are wholey interested. One of the articles we read was "Myth #1 People Read on The Web" by Zoltán Kollin.  (https://uxmyths.com/post/647473628/myth-people-read-on-the-web)

In his article he tells the readers that "Research shows that if people read a piece of content for pleasure, they read more thoroughly and find reading effortless even on a computer screen". This really stood out to me. As someone who does not consume much media or online content, I struggle to read online articles and long posts, which could also be blamed on my bad eyesight. As a kid I struggled reading and was in special small group classes due to my struggle from how poor my eyesight is. As an adult reading is a challenge but especially online, I have to sue special colored filters on my computer screen to help me read because I get words and letters mixed up in my head. Because of this reading online is super hard, but sometimes I find things I am beyond invested in and I can binge read it very fast. But on the other hand, even though I love to read books and can finish one in one sitting now (only paper not online), if I am not interested in it enough I will have a hard time and often quit before finishing.

I love when thing I learn in class can translate to my personal life like this!! It is just such a cool thing. Do you guys find that you truly read 100% of articles you come across or get sent by friends?? Let me know below!!

SEE YOU GUYS NEXT WEEK <3
